What Is ADAS in Hyundai Cars?

ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) refers to a group of safety systems designed to assist drivers and reduce accident risk. In Hyundai vehicles, ADAS typically includes:

  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA)
  • Lane Keeping Assist (LKA)
  • Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM)
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
  • Driver Attention Warning (DAW)

These systems work using cameras, radar sensors, and control units. Even a small misalignment can affect how accurately the car “sees” the road.

Why ADAS Calibration Matters

Improperly calibrated ADAS can lead to:

  • False collision warnings
  • Lane assist activating incorrectly
  • Adaptive cruise braking at wrong distances
  • Missed obstacle detection

Uncalibrated ADAS can, in some situations, be more unpredictable than having no ADAS at all.

What Is ADAS Calibration?

ADAS calibration is the process of realigning a vehicle’s cameras, radar sensors, and related control units so that they accurately interpret the road, other vehicles, and obstacles. It generally falls into two categories:

Static Calibration
The vehicle is positioned on a level surface, and calibration targets or reflective boards are placed at manufacturer-specified distances in front of it. Cameras and radar sensors are then recalibrated against these fixed reference points. This requires millimeter-level precision in target placement and surface levelness.

Dynamic Calibration
Some models require the vehicle to be driven under specific conditions — at certain speeds, maintaining lane discipline on marked roads — so the system can recalibrate using real-world input.

Which type (or combination) is required depends on the vehicle model and the ADAS components involved.

Where ADAS Calibration Is Done

ADAS calibration requires a controlled environment: a level, obstruction-free space of sufficient size for static target placement, or a suitable road stretch for dynamic calibration. It also depends on manufacturer-specific calibration data and diagnostic software to interpret sensor readings correctly.

 

Because of these environmental and technical requirements, ADAS calibration is generally carried out at facilities equipped for this specific purpose, rather than as an add-on to general repair work
